As part of the UNAIDS Target to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic by the year 2020, the HIV focal person of the Komenda Edina Equafo Abrem Municipal Assembly, Madam Bertha Yaabah Yankey with the support from Ghana AIDS Commission and the technical support unit from Central Regional Coordinating Council collaborated with the Ghana Health Service to organise HIV screening for the people of Elmina during the just ended Edina Bakatue Festival.
This was in Line with the 90-90-90 target set by the UNAIDS. This target was set to ensure that by 2020, 90% of all people living with HIV will know their HIV status. Also by 2020, 90% all people with diagnosed HIV infection will receive sustained anti retro-viral therapy. And Finally by 2020, 90% of people receiving anti retro-viral therapy will have viral suppression.
The people of Elmina took this screening serious and really participated in the exercise to make it a success at the end.
